Cheat Codes' Trevor Dahl threw an unexpected Billboard Live At-Home concert Friday (May 8) to raise money for MusiCares, which provides emergency aid to the music community impacted by coronavirus.

"If you know Cheat Codes, you know that we usually play in clubs or we do festivals...." Dahl said in his studio room that he performed in alone while social distancing from the rest of the EDM trio, KEVI and Matthew Russell.

But as someone who's been carving a solo path for himself since 2018, Dahl doesn't just know how to make up for his missing two groupmates: He just turns the dial in a different way that still arouses his audience. His syrupy vocals drip over his acoustic guitar on "I Love It" with DVBBS, as the stripped-down version brings some sweetness to its doleful chorus about drinking every night and blowing through his budget.

Next in the queue was "No Promises" with Demi Lovato, whom the 27-year-old musician missed dearly. "I wish Demi was here. She would have gotten all of those crazy high notes and those ad-libs," Dahl told the online concertgoers, who commented "Oh na na" and more lyrics like they were singing along. But those words coming only from Dahl retained their sincerity about diving head-first into uncharted waters and a love that's maybe meant to be.
