"In the past, when performing on the stages of my white male peers, I always felt like a visitor being one of the few Black women I could see," the English artist says of her new solo work.

Aluna has long delivered some of the slinkiest vocals in the dance world. Performing alongside George Reid as the electronic duo AluanGeorge, the English vocalist has lent her voice to tracks by dance elite including DJ Snake ("You Know You Like It"), Disclosure ("White Noise") and Jack Ü (To Ü).

Today (April 30), Aluna is stepping out on, and into, her own with her debut solo single "Body Pump." Dropping via Diplo's Mad Decent label, the song is a house cut with a singalong hook demonstrating the infectiousness of Aluna's voice and further establishing her as a dance world force for club hits and representation.

"Having enjoyed being the main ingredient to many successful dance records, I started wanting to create the whole dish," Aluna says in a statement. "In the past when performing on the stages of my white male peers, I always felt like a visitor being one of the few Black women I could see, so it never fully occurred to me to claim dance music as my music, as an artist, even though it was at the heart of my connection to music.

"Then I looked at the history of dance music," she continues, "and saw how, for example, Chicago House, known as the invention of house music, was pioneered in the Black and Latino LGTBQ+ communities which gave me inspiration to stake my flag in the ground as a Black woman in dance music by taking control of production and songwriting with my own vibe.”

The new single coincides with Aluna signing to Mad Decent, with her debut solo album in the works and dropping via the label.

"I've been a fan of Aluna for years -- her voice, her style and her way of putting records together," Diplo says in a statement. "Having her sign to Mad Decent feels like a family reunion - can't wait to get these records out to everyone. Huge project for Mad Decent."
