M.I.A. performs during The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill 20th Anniversary Tour at Festival Pier at Penn's Landing on July 13, 2018 in Philadelphia.

Update: M.I.A. did not release new music on Friday (Jan. 31), but launched a Patreon account, a subscriber-based community for artists and creatives wherein fans can choose a recurring monthly payment for access to content on a tiered system. M.I.A. also confirmed her sixth studio album is nearly completed and set for release on a traditional label later this year.

It's a new year and a new decade, and world-sound singer/rapper/superstar M.I.A. is ready for a new adventure.

The "Paper Planes" artist has teased new music on socials, writing in the caption that she'll explore "new planets and platforms." Always a vibrant and lively musical presence, the new tune seems to incorporate the Asian-influence of her Sri Lankan roots, choppin' her vocals into a rhythmic hook over a breathy beat, drum machine bass and flute melodies. It's going to be a party, set for release Friday, Jan. 31.

The clip, shared to Instagram and Twitter, celebrates the new year with the message "Vision 2020." We're not sure if that's a hint to a song or album title, but we don't have to wait too long to find out.

The fresh tune signals the first new music from M.I.A. since 2016's Aim LP.

Check the teaser clip below, and stay tuned for more details.
