Chromatics' Surprise Album 'Closer To Grey' Is the Ultimate Halloween Soundtrack: Listen

Johnny Jewel
Ruth Radelet of Chromatics

Spooky season has officially begun, and Chromatics have just the thing to keep you up at night. The Portland, Ore.-based electronic band surprise-released their new album Closer To Grey on Wednesday (Oct. 2).

Closer To Grey marks Chromatics' first album in seven years, following 2012's Kill For Love and a string of teased releases that never came to light. The band previously announced its Dear Tommy album in 2014, but it was revealed that member Johnny Jewel destroyed all the copies after a near-death experience. "Christmas day 2015, Johnny almost died in Hawaii,” Jewel's manager Alexis Rivera shared on Twitter. “When he came back home to California he destroyed all copies of Tommy. 15K CDs & 10K vinyl in the Italians warehouse in Glendale, all gone."

Despite the unfortunate circumstances, Closer To Grey appears to be worth the wait. The record is filled with haunting melodies that'll drive you to either rush to the dancefloor or cry in a corner, with "The Sound of Silence," "Whispers in the Hall" and the title track serving as highlights.
