UZ Brings Bass Dripping in Groove On 'Bang Bang': Exclusive

UZ may still wear a mask, but the once-mysterious producer and DJ wants you to really know who he is. In 2017, the trap and bass producer revealed himself as two-time DMC World Champion DJ Troubl, and today, he digs deeper into his musical roots with a groove-heavy boiler called "Bang Bang."

It's not a hands-in-the-air festival banger, but a low-register boom for smoky club floors and dark back alley mischief. It's the second single from his forthcoming third album, due out in 2020, a project wherein the producer showcases his "many facades...before and during the UZ project."

"Before UZ, as DJ Troubl, I was entrenched in the sounds of throwback hip hop and turntablism," he tells Billboard Dance. "This has left an indelible mark on my sound, and I feel that, with 'Bang Bang,' I have finally found that perfect blend of old school influence and the new wave of Trap music. To be completely honest, I’ve been very uninspired by the 'Drop' culture prevalent in EDM right now. I never understood it, but have yet tried to fit into that mold at points in my career.

"This third album will certainly have its energetic 'bangers,'" he continues, "but it also will show another side of myself, which is songs, songwriting with rappers and vocalists, and showcasing my love for beat driven productions. 'Bang Bang' is the pathway between the bangers and the beats."

"Bang Bang" follows the moody glitch of "Awakening" featuring Hucci, released in June.

The second single is out everywhere Friday, Aug. 23, but you can listen to it in full a day early, exclusively on Billboard Dance.
