Rezz Explains How Tiësto & Deadmau5 Influenced Her Sound, Teases New Musical Collaborations: Watch

REZZ graces one of three covers of this week’s dance issue of Billboard magazine, along with Alison Wonderland and TOKiMONSTA. She sat down for a chat during her photo shoot to discuss what it was that initially sparked her interest in electronic music, what the key to putting on a successful show is, and to tell fans what they can expect from her new EP.

Asked what it was that first attracted her to EDM, Rezz tells Billboard that when she was 13 years old, she stumbled upon a video of one of Tiësto’s live performances and then saw him perform live in Los Angeles. After that, she caught one of deadmau5’s shows and was hooked.

“I was so inspired by the beats and how simple they sounded, but very hypnotic, almost,” Rezz recalls. “I just felt like I needed to go home right away and start working on music, and that's exactly what I did.”

As for how she ensures that her own live performances are great, the DJ/producer notes that it’s important to interact with her audience as much as possible. “I just try to be interactive with the crowd,” she says. “For me, the best shows, in my opinion, are the ones where I'm the most energetic and the most engaged in every single song that I play.”

Speaking of her fans, Rezz believes that the reason her music resonates so well with them is because her music is “extremely authentic” and comes from “a place of extreme passion.”

In the interview, Rezz also opens up about what people can expect from her new EP, revealing that while fans can anticipate hearing music “that they would want to hear” from her, there will also be a “more evolved sound” and more collaborations with vocalists.
