When Marshmello got in the studio with Bastille, it was a cool moment for the producer to blend his rockin' roots with a real band vibe. Bastille began as a solo project of frontman Dan Smith, but he's since been joined by keyboardist Kyle Simmons, bassist and guitarist Will Farquarson, and drummer Chris Wood. Listening to the original version of "Happier," it sounds like Smith and Marshmello took on the tune together, but we've always wondered what would happen if it had the full ensemble on deck.
We wonder no more: On Friday (Nov. 9), Marshmello and Bastille unleash a fleshed-out, electric rock ballad take on the hit. Without all that neon bounce, the song's internal sadness shines through. It's tough to let someone go, but when you can see how far they'll fly unfettered, you do what you must.
