DJ Sliink & Axel Leon Bring Jersey to the Bronx on 'OMG': Exclusive
It's a quick drive from the Bronx to New Jersey, and both communities foster incredible music scenes. There's a bit of friendly competition there, to be sure, but between Jersey Club king DJ Sliink and Bronx rapper Axel Leon, there's nothing but love. The two linked up on a big boom with some dark bounce called "OMG." It's a fresh mix of both styles ready to take on the world.
"I’ve been at the forefront of Jersey Club, pioneering and pushing to expand the sound and the culture my whole life," DJ Sliink tells Billboard Dance. "Supporting the younger kids in the scene; mentoring, helping, sharing my sample packs and drum kits, remix and production opportunities, my contacts, etc - and trying to wear the title of Jersey Club king with honor. What I realized is that some of the sharing community that defined the Jersey Club culture I came up in has been missing the last year or two. As it's grown and I've grown, my mission is to expand Jersey Club and push its boundaries. I want to bridge gaps and join my sound with styles and artists I love. Axel Leon is one of my favorite New York City rappers. He spits straight fire and can do it all, from crazy freestyles, to hype af songs. 'OMG' is taking club music and bridging it with true NYC hip hop. It's gonna make the streets go crazy from Jersey to the Bronx and global."
"OMG" definitely has that gritty, NYC rap feel. It's a real trunk rattler, and Leon certainly brings stompin'est flow to the table.
"I pride myself on being a lyricist and putting purpose into every bar I spit," Axel Leon tells Billboard Dance. "Sometimes, that purpose is to turn the f-ck up for the club and the street. I linked with the Jersey king himself, DJ Sliink, because he always brings that energy. We listened through a bunch of demos at Fight Klub Studios, and 'OMG' is what caught his ear. The rest is history. We’ve got a certified banger. Bronx to Jersey on this one."
Put this one on when you wanna feel like the king or queen of the world. "OMG" is out everywhere on Alma Mater Records Friday, Nov. 2, but you can listen to it now in full below, exclusively on Billboard Dance.
