Illenium Teams With NV Concepts and Wicked Halloween for #Awake Suicide Prevention Campaign

Justine Henderson

In August, Illenium opened up to fans and friends about his struggles with drug addiction and depression in a vulnerable letter posted to social media. He wanted people who may be suffering to know that they aren't alone and better days are possible. He paired the conversation starter with the release of his song "Take You Down," which was directly-inspired by his self-abusive past and the toll it took on his important relationships.

Now, Illenium takes his commitment to mental health and wellness a step further, teaming up with entertainment company NV Concepts and Wicked Halloween festival in Massachusetts to raise money for the Suicide Prevention Lifeline. He invites fans to submit 15-second videos of themselves explaining what gives them a reason to live, a reason to stay Awake, as his 2017 album is titled.

"We all know that life can get tough sometimes," he writes on Instagram, "and many of us struggle with anxiety and depression on a daily basis. It's important to come together and know that you are not alone no matter how hard life can get."

For every video shared on socials, Illenium and his partners will donate $1 to the cause. Fans need remember to tag @illeniummusic and @NVConcepts with the #Awake for contributions to be counted.

"With recent events and awareness in the Dance Music community in regard to mental health issues," says Tim Bonito, founder and CEO of NV Concepts, "our organization felt like this was the perfect time to partner with Illenium and our annual Halloween event Wicked Halloween to help raise money and even more awareness. Illenium recently spoke about his struggles with mental health, and we found it inspiring for others to open up (a) dialogue about an issue that has long been taboo to talk about openly. The #AWAKE campaign encourages people to openly discuss what gets them up in the morning and what inspires them to stay positive."
