"It was one of our favorite tunes growing up," Dirty Werk's Steve Smooth says.
Dirty Werk, the duo of Steve Smooth and DJ Bam Bam, strolls to the summit of Billboard's Dance Club Songs chart (dated Sept. 22) with "Stand Up" (2-1). It's the act's first No. 1, in its inaugural Billboard chart appearance.
Smooth (real name Steven Stanula) and Bam Bam (David Boenzi) has become known for its remixes, tackling tracks by Kygo, Enrique Iglesias and Bebe Rexha, among others.
Chicago-based club DJ and producer Smooth tells Billboard, "'Stand Up' is an old-school Chicago house song from the '90s [originally by Love Tribe] that we covered. For both of us, it was one of our favorite tunes growing up as little kids in the '90s in Chicago. We recut the vocals, keeping the soulful vibe of the original, while producing all new music. Our original version is future bounce; then, we added an influential tribal house mix by Alex Acosta and a house mix from Scotty Boy and Luca Debonaire."
