Billboard Dance Chart Upstarts: Black Coffee & David Guetta, Max Styler, Andrew Bayer
Each week, Billboard Dance looks at songs & albums rising on Billboard's dance charts.
Black Coffee & David Guetta feat. Delilah Montagu, "Drive"
Johannesburg, South Africa-based DJ/producer Black Coffee (real name Nathi Maphumulo), French superstar DJ/producer David Guetta and London-based singer-songwriter Delilah Montagu debut at No. 31 on Billboard's Hot Dance/Electronic Songs chart (dated Sept. 8) with "Drive." Black Coffee makes his first Billboard chart appearance as a lead act and second overall; as featured (with Jorga Smith) on Drake's "Get It Together," he reached No. 25 on Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs and No. 45 on the Billboard Hot 100 in April 2017.
"Drive," included on Guetta's seventh LP, 7 (due Sept. 14), is the DJ's 34th track to hit Hot Dance/Electronic Songs chart, the most of all acts since the list's January 2013 launch; he passes Calvin Harris, with 33. The song is Montagu's first Billboard chart entry. "Drive" drove 819,000 U.S. streams and sold 1,000 downloads in the tracking week ending Aug. 30, according to Nielsen Music.
Max Styler, "Feel It"
California native Max Styler starts at No. 38 on Dance/Mix Show Airplay with "Feel It," his first showing on the chart and his inaugural solo chart appearance overall. Previously, Styler's "Badman," with Autoerotique, touched Dance/Electronic Digital Song Sales (No. 44, August 2015) and Hot Dance/Electronic Songs (No. 49, September 2015). "Feel" finds it airplay from core-dance affiliates, including Music Choice's Dance/EDM channel, iHeartRadio's Evolution network (as monitored on WFLZ-HD Tampa, Florida) and SiriusXM's BPM.
Andrew Bayer, In My Last Life
Washington, D.C.-born DJ/producer Andrew Bayer achieves his first Billboard top 10, debuting at No. 4 on Dance/Electronic Album Sales with In My Last Life. The album's eight different songs are available in two sets, their full versions and in edited form. Five tracks feature vocals from Alison May, while three feature Ane Brun. Bayer hit the chart with two earlier albums, If It Were You, We'd Never Leave (No. 19, 2013) and Do Androids Dream (EP) (No. 11, 2015).
