Marshmello arrives at the MTV Video Music Awards in New York City on Aug. 20, 2018.

Hold up. All this time, masked DJ and producer Marshmello was really Shawn Mendes

No, not really, but that's the trick the two entertainers tried to pull on the crowd at the iHeartRadio Much Music Video Awards Sunday night (Aug. 26). "Marshmello" came out to accept his award for Anne-Marie collaboration "Friends," and while it seemed there may have been something different in his silent swagger, there was definitely something off about the way he took off his helmet. Mendes then revealed himself to be underneath, and the crowd went wild.

The friendly pair continued to bust the brass with pics on social media. "Secrets out...we're a duo now," Marshmello tweeted. So far, there is no official word of a collaboration, though Mendes has been in the studio with fellow dance-popper Zedd.

Marshmello's MMVA honor comes just days after "Friends" received platinum plaque status from the RIAA. The song reached No. 11 on the Hot 100 this summer.

Well, I guess it’s not a secret anymore... @shawnmendes
