Exactly four months to the day after his tragic death, Avicii was honored at the 2018 MTV VMAs on Aug. 20 with the award for best dance music video for his Rita Ora collaboration "Lonely Together."

The clip was directed by his friend and frequent collaborator Levan Tsikurishvili, the same who directed the biographical documentary True Stories. "Lonely Together" took the moon-man over fellow nominees The Chainsmokers, Calvin Harris, David Guetta, Marshmello and Zedd.

Ora, who was present at the televised event, took a moment during her introduction to Maluma's performance to address the crowd. “I wanna take a minute to say I just found out that Avicii and I won best dance, so let’s made some noise for Avicii right now, an amazing talent,” Ora said.

The award-winning clip features extensive special effects to tell the story of a couple alone together in a frozen world. The treatment was reportedly Avicii's idea. It was a bittersweet moment for everyone involved.

"Lonely Together" was also nominated in the best visual effects category.

Avicii passed April 20 of this year of an apparent suicide.
