While we attempt to recover from the Southern California collective's 2018 edition, co-founder Mikey Lion offers up a trippy rewind of what went down on the reservation.
While we sit at work still finding remnants of dust and glitter in our hair, memories from Desert Hearts' 2018 festival continue to distract us from the pains of returning to real life. Eccentric and in a league of its own, the four-day psychedelic affair, which boasted a lineup of Serge Devant, Sacha Robotti, Egyptian Lover, Lauren Lane, Kenny Glasgow, the entire DH crew (Mikey Lion, Lee Reynolds, Porky and Marbs) and a special four-hour sunrise set from Damian Lazarus, proved that the world can be cured with proportionate servings of house, techno and love.
Co-founder Mikey Lion took Billboard Dance along for a ride down the rabbit hole and documented (what he could) his experience at the heralded spring gathering of wizards and wanderers alike. Cling tight to your crystals and relive the hedonistic paradise below (captions courtesy of Mikey himself)!
Damian Lazarus four-hour sunrise on Sunday morning
Damian Lazarus’ label and parties have been huge inspirations to us over the past decade. We thought it would be fitting to give him an extended sunrise set and he knocked it out of the park!
The Desert Hearts Crew closing set on Monday afternoon
Our closing set on Monday afternoon is generally regarded as the most magical moment of the festival. Everyone who works the festival is off the clock for one last party as the Desert Hearts Crew plays back 2 back for six hours to close things out.
Fashion show on the dance floor
Desert Hearts has become synonymous with the freakiest fashion imaginable, so we bust out the catwalk for the annual fashion show on Saturday afternoon.
The annual dance floor Connect 4 tournament
The annual Connect 4 tournament is a staple at Desert Hearts. So much so that Atish will play his round during his DJ set if he has to.
Wine & Cheese party on the dance floor
What started as an idea of some friends giving out wine and cheese on the dance floor has turned into an institution. The Wine & Cheese Party is a must at Desert Hearts Festival.
Peak time for fire spinners on the dance floor
We have all kinds of performers at Desert Hearts Festival, but peak time at night is when the fire spinners rule the dance floor.
Desert Hearts will bring their effervescent vibes to Las Vegas for the Desert Hearts Presents: Sin City Hearts Festival on Saturday, May 5. Tickets are available here.
