Whethan & Broods Don't Want to 'Be Like You' On Smoldering New Collab: Listen

Angie Bambii

It's starting to feel like everyone wants a piece of Whethan. Over the past year, the 18-year-old DJ has worked with everyone from Charli XCX ("Love Gang") and Elohim ("Sleepy Eyes") to recently, Dua Lipa for a spot on the Fifty Shades Freed soundtrack ("High"). Today (March 16), Whethan adds yet another hit to his arsenal -- this time with brother-sister dance-pop duo Broods.

The result, "Be Like You," is a smoldering time bomb, layering Broods vocalist Georgia Nott's ethereal singing over gritty thuds of bass and rattling percussion. "I don't wanna be like you," Nott breathes, as glitchy, metallic production lends an edge to her lush vocals.

"The song is about a stage when we felt that nothing was really about the music anymore, and that you have to be so many other things to be a pop artist these days other than just writing good songs," Broods tells Billboard. "I guess it’s an expression of how frustrating it can be when you only want to do it for the music."

Adds Whethan: "This record is one of my personal favorite songs to date. Broods are amazing and I'm so happy that the world can finally hear this."

Both acts are heading into 2018 strong: While Whethan, fresh off a European tour with Louis The Child, is set to return to Coachella this summer, Nott just released her all-female LP The Venus Project: Vol. 1 and continues to tour with brother Caleb as Broods, who are working on new music.

Head into the weekend with the striking new collab, below.
