Electronic dance music ain't nothin' new. It started in the '70s with Kraftwerk and disco, and somehow, it's exploded to this place where festivals pop up like weeds and dance-pop crossover acts top Billboard charts every summer. But how did we get here?

All that exciting -- and at times controversial -- history is explored and celebrated in the new documentary What We Started. The film, produced by Bert Marcus Productions and directed by Marcus and Cyrus Saidi, has everything from old archived footage of '80s and '90s rave scenes to interviews with your favorite DJs and producers, including Martin Garrix, Carl Cox, Moby, Paul Oakenfold, David Guetta, Afrojack and Tiesto, as well as dance feature vocalists (and enthusiasts) Usher and Ed Sheeran, who have helped bring electronic sounds to a wider audience.

What We Started will see a theatrical premiere on March 22 in Miami, March 23 in New York and March 29 in Los Angeles. The documentary will go out nationwide through Abramorama on March 23. If you're a music geek or a student of dance history, this won't be one to miss.
