Calvin Harris did everything he could to impress the Recording Academy in a bid to win the Producer of the Year - Non-Classical award at Sunday night's (Jan. 28) 2018 Grammy Awards. He produced DJ Khaled's "Don't Quit" and his own Funk Wav Bounces Vol. 1 album, plus he grew a big, kick-ass beard to make himself seem more serious.

And yet, he lamented in an extended Twitter rant on Tuesday night (Jan. 30), it didn't work. "Last year I grew a big ol beard in order to be taken seriously by the Grammys as a producer," he wrote. "It worked to an extent - my Producer of the Year nomination came through and I was happy the beard was performing as well as I had hoped..."

But, spoiler alert, it didn't work and, alas, "even a new beard has its limitations" and he lost out to the lovely and talented Greg Kurstin (Foo Fighters, Beck, Zayn, Kendrick Lamar, Halsey, Liam Gallagher). "A big ol beard can only take you so far," Harris realized.

In case you were wondering, the beard is gone now and he's moving on with his year.
