iZNiiK EP 2

We first met the mysterious sample-shooter iZNiiK in September of 2017 when he dropped his aptly titled five-track EP 1. It had us reminiscing about the near-perfect debut studio album Since I Left You from sampling superstars The Avalanches. It was so deft with its groove-building, so slick with its sample choices, but it came off like a sensual '90s fever dream, tapping into some kind of Millennial nostalgia with bits and pieces of what sounded like cuts from movies or after-school sitcoms.

We don't know any more about the man or woman behind the music, but today, we get another look inside their magical cut-and-paste world with another five tracks on EP 2. It's even brighter and funkier than its predecessor, welcoming some of future-pop's choppy, chipper feels without any of the cliche pitfalls some of that genre's copycats can so easily fall into. It seems like there's also plenty of honest instrumentation on this go 'round, though the samples still take center stage.

It's hyper, soulful and vibrant to a fever pitch. It may just be exactly what you need to get ready for the weekend, and it's definitely a good look as we move into exciting new territory in 2018. EP 2 gets full release Friday, Jan. 12, but you can listen to iZNiiK's tie-dye tapestry of sound in full below, exclusively on Billboard Dance
