Billboard Dance Chart Upstarts: Sam F, Dzeko & Perturbator
Each week, Billboard Dance looks at songs & albums rising on Billboard's dance charts.
Sam F featuring Sophie Rose, "Limitless"
California-based producer Sam F forays onto Billboard's Dance/Mix Show Airplay chart (dated Sept. 23) at No. 38 with "Limitless," featuring singer Sophie Rose. The track is Sam F's first Dance/Mix Show Airplay showing and Rose's first appearance on any Billboard chart. "Limitless" marks Sam F's first hit on a Billboard chart in three years, since his feature (along with Lil Jon) on The Lonely Island's EDM parody "When Will the Bass Drop," reached No. 22 on Hot Dance/Electronic Songs in 2014. Although released March 31, "Limitless" is now ramping up its radio airplay, with nearly all its spins in the tracking week stemming from such core-dance radio outlets as SiriusXM's BPM, Music Choice's Dance/EDM channel and WFLZ-HD Tampa, Florida (an iHeartRadio Evolution affiliate), according to Nielsen Music.
Dzeko featuring Brynn Elliott, "California"
Toronto-based DJ/producer Dzeko (full name Julian Dzeko) digs into Dance/Mix Show Airplay at No. 39 with "California," featuring vocalist Brynn Elliott. It's the DJ's first Billboard chart action as a solo act and Elliott's first overall. As a member of DJ duo Dzeko & Torres, Dzeko pierced the Dance/Mix Show Airplay top five in February 2016, hitting No. 4 with the pair's Delaney Jane-featuring remake of Gigi D'Agostino's 2003 hit "I'll Fly With You (L'Amour Toujours)." Released June 23 on Tiesto's Musical Freedom label, "California" counts the entirety of its airplay from three core dance outlets: SiriusXM's BPM, WFLZ-HD and Music Choice's Dance/EDM channel.
Perturbator, New Model (EP)
Perturbator, the alias of French electronic musician James Kent, debuts at No. 7 on Dance/Electronic Album Sales with the EP New Model. The six-track set sold 1,000 copies and is the act's third top 10, all since last spring. Perturbator debuted and peaked, concurrently, on May 28, 2016, with two titles: full-length The Uncanny Valley (No. 3) and an EP of extras from the album, The Uncanny Valley: Expansion (No. 8).
