Illenium Ain't 'Leaving' Fans Out in the Cold With This Future Bass Ballad: Listen

Justine Henderson

You've still got a week to wait before Illenium's sophomore album Awake hits shelves in full, but he wants to give fans a little something extra special in the form of a single download, which you can nab when you hop on that album preorder.

“Leaving” is a heartfelt future ballad, an intimate invite into the producer's soft spot. You know it's intimate, because it opens with the warm crackle of an old vinyl record and the soft-spoken words of some sad woman on an answering machine.

Her forlorn “I miss you, I guess” falls on deaf ears. “Leaving” is a song about knowing when you've had enough. How long are you supposed to wait for the one you love to come around? There's freedom in the fall, of course, and the hook is rightfully powerful in its untethered grandiosity.

“Leaving” is fifth single leading to Illenium's full-length release. Awake drops Thursday, Sept. 21, but “Leaving” is out everywhere today on Seeking Blue ad Kasaya Recordings. Grab Awake up on preorder, and listen to "Leaving" below.
