It's hard to imagine a better version of The xx's “On Hold.” The lead single from the band's third album I See You heralded it's new, clubbier sound, and showcased the trio's broadened perspective, willingness to evolve, and triumph over hard times. It's a bright star in the band's beautiful night sky, and it featured Jamie xx's electronic percussion and sampling skills front and center.

Now, Jamie xx shares a new mix of the tune. Someone so close to the original surely knows how to best honor the song while transforming its vibe. The remix sits somewhere directly between the '80s Manchester club scene and modern tech-house groove. Its dark layers grow up from the ground into a tangled jungle of synthetic sounds. It's disco tribalism for the nocturnal animal in you.

The band celebrates Jamie xx's remix of “On Hold” with an extended version of the original music video. The remix is out now on Young Turks. Watch and listen below.
