Beloved LGBT Activist and DJ Bubbles Fatally Shot in San Francisco
An LGBT DJ and known activist was fatally shot early Saturday morning, Sept. 9, near a strip club in the Tenderloin district of San Francisco.
According to the SF Examiner, Anthony Torres was known to friends and fans by his performance moniker Bubbles. His attorney is pursuing the case as a hate crime. Jane Kim of the Tenderloin Board of Supervisors says there is not yet enough information to rule the murder a hate crime, but has confirmed surveillance footage of the incident and the pursuit of a person of interest.
Torres was a beloved figure in both the underground house and techno scene, as well as the LGBT community.
“This homicide is a very unfortunate and tragic incident,” Kim is quoted by SF Examiner. “He was one of those San Francisco personalities.”
A memorial has been set up at the cite of the shooting here friends, family, and fans have left pictures of Torres, as well as messages of love and respect. A vigil was held Sunday, Sept. 10. Read the full story via the SF Examiner.
