You ever hear a sound that physically grabs you and rips you through to another time and place? It's automatic, like experiencing a smell from your childhood. It can catch you off guard, but you find yourself searching for more.

If you've been searching for a portal like that back to the early days of '90s house, rejoice. Felix Da Housecat has conjured a link between that world, this one, and the worlds yet to come. His nascent label Founders of Filth launched in May, and come Friday, Sept. 15, its second compilation release will lead listeners down a path that leads straight to a time-warped warehouse party.

“The release is inspired by my roots of growing up on the southside of Chicago whilst I was staying with Marshall Jefferson,” Felix Da Housecat is quoted in a press release. “He was my teacher at the time, alongside Roy Davis Jr, also being inspired by Larry Heard alias Gherkin Jerks. I would go see Mike Dunn and Armondo rock the warehouse club in early nineties … with this frequency and vibration, it has resonated with my spirit of Nostalgia.”

The EP promises tracks from The Divine, Aphrohead, Moonroom, and label in-house band the FOFtréaL Quintet. Felix Da Housecat teases the release with a preview of this last track. “I Won't Try” is moody grooves and spoken-words to create an atmospheric soundscape that ebbs and grows like watching a movie of someone's dream. Thumping bass and blinky synth create the nostalgic sound, though the composition bares distinct modernity.
