Avicii Talks Upcoming Album, Traveling Africa and Feeling Normal

Sean Eriksson

After a year-plus musical hiatus, Avicii returned to the scene with a brand new EP titled Av?ci (01). In a recent phone interview with BBC Radio 1 host and DJ Pete Tong, the Swedish DJ/producer discussed the project, getting back to releasing music and more.

"This is the first year I felt like I've been able to kind of live normally for the first time in eight years or something," he says, "so it's been really cool to have a year off."

After retiring from touring in August 2016, Avicii says "the first thing I did was go to Africa for three months and yeah, I didn't have a cell phone or anything."

As soon he came back from the trip, though, he dove right back into producing and he mentions he's been working on his upcoming album for nearly three years. With respect to how the LP will be rolled out, he says Av?ci (01) is "the first EP of three so the whole album will be released with the third EP."

If you've yet to check out the project that marks his return to music, you can listen to it here.
