Steve Aoki Runs The Trap With His Whole Gang on Feature-Heavy Kolony' LP: Listen

What happens when you out-gang the deepest gangs? You break out the tribal drums, bang them bitches and turn the gang into a Kolony.

That's how the vibe opens on Steve Aoki's hard-hitting new LP, courtesy of turned-up verses from iLoveMakonen and Bok Nero, and the heat only turns up from there. Second track “Lit” with Gucci Mane and T-Pain is some Queen-referencing nastiness, and the hook is super gnarly with production collaboration from Yellow Claw.

It's a trap house party from start to finish, and all Aoki's hardest crew members are invited. Single “Without You” with 2 Chainz and DVBBS will ring familiar to fans, followed by the playful funk of “How Else” with Rich The Kid and a second appearance from ILoveMakonnen. “Been Ballin” with Lil Uzi Vert is sludgy electro-trap with a West Coast lean, while “Night Call” with Lil Yachty and Migos gives the ladies something to grind to. Every tune has a bit of radio appeal, and not only because of the monster features.

Wale turns the vibe inward on “If I Told You That I Love You,” then it turns back up with Jimmy October and Bad Royale on “No Time.” The set closes with some trippy turn-down on “Thank You Very Much,” with Ricky Remedy and Sonny Digital, but when it finishes, you might just find yourself wanting to start it all over again.

Kolony is nothing less than the vibe of the moment, perfectly encapsulated, with some of the industry's biggest players, brought to you by one of dance music's most iconic chameleons. This has summer '17 written all over it. Listen to it from start to finish below.
