Major Lazer's Walshy Fire Offers Up A Brief History of DJ Uncle Al

"I, myself, was inspired to be a DJ from him directly."

"He basically made Miami culture," says Walshy Fire, one-third of the electro group Major Lazer, when speaking about Miami legend DJ Uncle Al.

Born Albert Moss, DJ Uncle Al became known around Miami for throwing block parties. In Billboard's video series "A Brief History of," Walshy Fire breaks down what made the acclaimed DJ so important. "He made sure everyone in Miami was entertained no matter where you were from," Walshy Fire explains.

DJ Uncle Al had a philosophy of "peace in the 'hood" and he brought that to fruition by bringing different neighborhoods together through these block parties. He was murdered Sept. 10, 2001 -- the day before the terror attacks of 9/11. "A lot of his legacy didn't get a chance [to be] celebrated because an even bigger tragedy happened the following day."
