Electronic music has proved itself far more than a fad. It's been the soundtrack to generations of wild nights and chill mornings. Its recent explosion in the United States has made the ever-expending genre a mainstay of the country's entertainment industry. So maybe it's time we gave electronic musicians a big round of applause?

The first-ever Electronic Music Awards are coming to Los Angeles on Sept. 21, and those who can't be there in the downtown venue can catch the action via Twitter global live stream. The presentation will feature 11 awards that celebrate every level of producer and performer, from the underground to the commercial giants. Co-produced by Paul Oakenfold and the Hunt & Crest entertainment company, the awards are voted by a collection of leading advisers and executives within the electronic community.

The EM Awards broadcast will begin at 7:47 p.m. PT, via Twitter -- no log-in necessary. Nominees, presenters, performers and more will be announced in weeks to come. Check the EM Awards online for more details and information.
