Following the news of Chris Cornell's untimely death on Thursday (May 18), fans across the world are paying tribute to the iconic frontman of seminal grunge rock band Soundgarden.

Cornell and the band played an important role in the era's grunge movement, creating a wave in the Seattle music scene. They were credited as the first grunge band to sign a major label, joining A&M Records in 1989.
