Dawn Richard Premieres Electro-Bounce Track 'Break Me': Listen
Always full of surprises, Dawn Richard caught fans off guard on Wednesday (May 17) when she premiered the previously unreleased track, "Break Me".
The electro-bounce record holds an ethereal consistency which aligns closely with previous work in Richard's Blackheart and Redemption eras. With a synthesized, sensual voice that rides along to a blunt 808 bass line, the singer proclaims, "I'm not scared to be me."
"Break Me" is just one of the smooth projects that the former Danity Kane recorded with underground producer Leonce. In the midst of premiering the song, the producer retweeted a fan giving love to their first collab, "Runaway". "I'm a runaway lover," sings Richard on the more urgent and upbeat record. The track more freely recalls the bounce genre originated in New Orleans, adding an electro-funk flavor akin to Afrika Bambaataa & the Soulsonic Force's "Planet Rock."
Aside from releasing these impressive jams, Dawn Richard is preparing for her east coast Redemption Tour in July (tickets can be purchased here). The singer has also released an interactive 3D video for Redemption cut "Lazarus" -- with one fan dubbing it a "futuristic 'Pleasure Principle'."
Umm. Did @DawnRichard just give me the futuristic pleasure principle? You leave me with good feelings ALL the time.— Desparado Sinclair (@yelleaux) May 10, 2017
