Ultra Miami & Ultra Europe Promoter Locked in Legal Battle: Report
Ultra Music Festival's Miami event is the brand's flagship, but it licenses that brand to international partners, including Croatia's Ultra Europe promoters, Adria MM Productions. According to a report by the Miami New Times, the two companies are now embroiled in a legal battle of complaint and counter-complaint as AMM accuses the Miami-based company of making outrageous demands, while the original Ultra camp argues a breach of contract.
AMM originally filed against Ultra in a case that's being handled in Miami's federal court. According to Miami New Times:
"Ultra repeatedly threatened to cancel the event when [we] did not acquiesce to Ultra’s increasingly burdensome demands," write lawyers representing Adria MM Productions, the Croatian event promoters, who filed suit April 28. "Reluctant to disappoint thousands of electronic music fans attending the yearly event, [we] strove to meet each and every demand by Ultra, even when such demands were unreasonable."
Ultra countered that AMM failed to pay licensing fees and therefore is in breach of contract with no rights to control the brand. The counter claim argues that AMM held unauthorized press conferences, improperly used its trademark, and unlawfully retained ticket proceeds of €1.4 million, among other complaints.
In the meantime, Ultra Europe is still scheduled to go on in Split, Croatia, July 14 through 16. Read the full details of the complaints at Miami New Times.
