Gorillaz' Post-Apocalyptic 'Humanz' Drops Just in Time For Trump's 100th Day in Office: Listen

Jamie Christopher Hewlett

The seven year wait is over. Gorillaz' fifth album Humanz is official out.

It's been a long and exciting lead up for the virtual band, which started last August when De La Soul announced it was working with creative mastermind Damon Albarn on a new Gorillaz LP. The final 20 tracks (26 if you count the deluxe edition additions) features a who's who of performances from D.R.A.M., Danny Brown, Vince Staples, Popcaan, Grace Jones, Pusha T, and more.

Recent interviews with Albarn revealed the political theme of the LP. He asked every collaborator to imagine a night where everything they believed was turned on its head and to tap into those emotions. For Albarn, that moment was Trump's election as U.S. President, although the album bares no mention of his name or any direct references. Interestingly, the album's release comes one day before Trump's 100th day in office.

While lead singles “Saturnz Barz,” “Andromeda,” “Ascension,” “Let Me Out,” “We Got the Power,” and “Hellelujah Money” gave insight into the project, fans the world over are no doubt rejoicing in the triumphant return of the world's premiere cartoon band. Listen to the deluxe edition of Humanz below, and look out for Gorillaz on tour in the coming months.
