One of the things I always liked about Linkin Park as a kid was the band's hybrid nature. It was always mixing electronic elements and hip-hop into it's musical metal, which in the early 2000s was a really fresh concept. As the band's career continues into its 17th year, that foresight has proven ingenious, and its continued dedication to experimentation keeps its place in the modern musical conversation.

Linkin Park's latest single “Heavy” is a moody alt-pop ballad with vocals from Kiiara, its textures rooted equally in electronic rhythms and rock instrumentation. It's emotional but danceable, and for the remix, the band tapped Nicky Romero to amp up that electronic edge.

Romero's take comes in with the half-time beat and builds into a drop full of staccato strings and a light and bouncy vocal chop. It's still got ballad vibes, but the energy has been turned up a few notches. Check it out for yourself below.
