Billboard Dance Chart Upstarts: Lucas & Steve, Blanck Mass & Lusine
Each week, Billboard Dance looks at songs & albums rising on Billboard's dance charts.
Lucas & Steve featuring Jake Reese, "Calling On You"
Dutch DJ duo Lucas & Steve (Lucas de Wert and Steven Jansen) scores its first appearance on a U.S.-based Billboard chart, debuting at No. 40 on Dance/Mix Show Airplay with "Calling On You," featuring Jake Reese. Early supporters include core-dance stations KNHC (C89.5) Seattle, WFLZ-HD Tampa (an iHeartRadio Evolution affiliate) and WPTY (Party 105) Nassau, New York. Last summer, Lucas & Steve teamed with fellow Dutch DJ Sam Feldt on the critically-acclaimed "Summer On You," which reached No. 5 on the Netherlands Digital Song Sales chart. Vocalist Reese, meanwhile, reached No. 31 on Dance/Mix Show Airplay last July as featured on Hardwell's "Run Wild."
Blanck Mass, World Eater
London-based electronic act Blanck Mass (aka Benjamin John Power) achieves its/his second top 10 on Dance/Electronic Album Sales, as World Eater enters at No. 7. The set sold 1,000 copies, according to Nielsen Music, on par with the act's previous effort, Dumb Flesh, upon its No. 9 debut in May 2015. Power is also half of electronic duo Fuck Buttons, along with Andrew Hung. That act has scored two top 10s on Top Dance/Electronic Albums, as well: Tarot Sport (No. 9, 2009) and Slow Focus (No. 8, 2013).
Seattle-based downtempo techno act Lusine (aka Jeff McIlwain) lands its first appearance on any Billboard albums chart, debuting at No. 16 on Dance/Electronic Album Sales with Sensorimotor. The largely instrumental, experimental album features the vocal talents of Vilja Larjosto, Sarah McIlwain and Benoit Pioulard, all of whom also touch a Billboard chart for the first time.
