Richie Hawtin's Live Show 'Close' Will Explore the Relationship Between Man & Machine: Exclusive

Johannes Kraemer
Richie Hawtin

Anyone who's seen Richie Hawtin live likens it to some kind of religious experience. The Canadian producer is more than a DJ. He lives in the intersection of live and mixed, bringing the feeling of a studio session to the stage in such an intimate and mind-bending manner as to become a living legend of the electronic scene.

If you've never seen Hawtin, you're in luck, and even if you have caught his act before, it was nothing like this. Hawtin announces “CLOSE Spontaneity & Synchronicity,” a new 75-minute audio and visual experience that pits the artist amid an array of modular synths, sound boards, and all manner of analog music machines.

The set-up points a number of live-feed cameras to capture his every movement and feed those images through rendered abstractions and projects them in real-time, literally blurring the line between the man, his machines and the music they make together.

It all looks very exciting in this preview video below. "CLOSE Spontaneity & Synchronicity" will debut at Coachella for Friday of both weekends, April 14 and 21, and continue through select dates around the world in 2017. Check below for the full tour announcement.
