Temples' 'Certainty' Gets a Franz Ferdinand Rework: Premiere

Ed Miles

In their debut offering Sun Structure, Temples packaged their signature psychedelic, rock-injected flair onto a rousing 12 cuts, saluting the booming funk riffs of the '60s whilst dipping into the modern-day sounds of rock music. Pushing the Temples' boundaries a bit further, fellow British rockers Franz Ferdinand flipped the group's newest single "Certainty" off their forthcoming effort Volcano out on Fat Possum Records.

Bathed in mesmerizing synths, Franz Ferdinand alienates the original's wooziness and laces dark loops and a sweeping underlying bassline behind the arrangement. The fuzzy frequency stimulates the expansive track transforming the Temples' nostalgic cut into an infectious five-minute escape.

"When someone is remixing a song you have a certain idea of how you think it will sound, Franz Ferdinand have really turned the track on its head, arrangement and even genre," Temples frontman James Bagshaw said in a statement. "I don't think any of us expected such an electronic reimagined version of the song! It's wonderful.”
