In an effort to ensure festivalgoers are aware of what's in purchased pills before they're ingested, "Just One Life" campaigners plan to hand out thousands of free, DIY pill-testing kits at Sydney music festivals this summer.

Although the tests are unable to detect potentially deadly cutting agents, they can confirm whether or not pills contain a particular drug.

Initially, the harm minimization advocates wanted to go all out with laboratory-grade equipment, doctors and analysts, but according to Fairfax, the NSW state government has threatened to prosecute those associated with a pill-testing trial, despite strong support from festival organizers.

Dr. Caldicott, an emergency medical specialist involved in the initiative, said, "Nobody is endorsing drug use. Nobody is trying to encourage it. What we are trying to ensure is that young people don't die...that is the basis for Just One Life."
