Update: Die Antwoord vocalist Yolandi Visser took to Instagram on Friday (Sept. 9) to debunk reports that the act would break up in September 2017, saying the Exclaim! writer had "totally twisted [their] words. Read the full post below.

According to an interview by Exclaim!, group leader Ninja has confirmed the South African trio's unfortunate demise will come precisely on schedule. Do you remember the band promised to release five albums and then “disappear?” Because we didn't, and we freaking love Die Antwoord.

The final album will be released in September of 2017, and as Ninja explains, "Die Antwoord dies on that day. It's all over. I feel beautiful about it. I'm not scared of the end. I'm a Ninja. I'm not scared of death."

Honestly, the scheduled finish sounds incredibly boss level, perfect for a group that spent its ten years championing art, individuality, and such fierce perspective. There's a movie coming out that will serve as a fictional but loosely-based in reality retrospective of the band's existence. Die Antwoord has been writing, working, and filming the project all this time, even before the band started.

The group will make one final fantastic stand as part of a “huge art project” to be exhibited at the Museum of Contemporary Modern African Art, presented by and in collaboration with Die Antwoord's favorite artist and self-exclaimed “hands-down number one” influence Roger Ballen.
