Watch Electric Zoo 2016 Live Stream of Dim Mak 20th Anniversary Stage
Steve Aoki's Dim Mak Records goes way beyond EDM. Now famous for EDM and on-stage antics, Aoki started out as a huge supporter of the DIY punk and hardcore scenes. He used to host concerts in his living room, he called it “The Pickle Patch,” and in 1996, he started Dim Mak all by himself as a means to give some of these unique talents a home.
He was the first dude to put out music from Pretty Girls Make Graves, the Von Bondies, and a little band you may have heard of called Bloc Party. When he started DJing in the early 2000s, he began putting out music from the likes of The Klaxons, Soulwax, and MSTRKRFT. Soon, he was working with the Bloody Beetroots, Datsik, and today, he's even got a record with Pharrell.
It's been a wild 20 years for Dim Mak and Aoki, and he's celebrating with a specially-curated anniversary stage at Electric Zoo Saturday, Sept. 3. He's put all the future stars on one lineup to honor where Dim Mak's been and represent the new places it's going. Even if you can't make it to Randall's Island in New York City, you can join the party via a live stream courtesy of YourEDM and Uphoric.tv.
