IMS Asia-Pacific 2016 Announces First Speakers: Skrillex, Alesso, Pete Tong & More
The International Music Summit has returned to Asia. In 2015, the annual global event highlighted the rapid growth of electronic music in the Asian market – 30 percent growth as of 2011, to be exact – and this year, it's setting up camp in the middle of that market, smack dab in Shanghai, China.
It's going to be a real Asian sensation with tons of thematic talks and presentations. Alesso is coming to discuss the importance of local Asian artists in his own career. Skrillex is bringing his OWSLA Meet Team to sit on a panel and dig into topics like recording in Korea, the influence of Japan, and Chinese film studios.
Asian pop stars will also take center stage, including pop singer Jolin Tsai, underground Thai DJ Nakadia, and young YellowClaw collaborator Chace (who's also notable the first Chinese artist to every play Tomorrowland).
“Asia is one of electronic music’s biggest opportunities, yet a market that most who live outside know little about,” says Ben Turner, co-founder of IMS, in a press release. “The caliber of our speakers highlights the growing global interest in the region and it’s imperative for IMS to build a dialogue and create further connections and understanding between East and West. We’re delighted to be working with STORM and Eric as our local partners, who have been instrumental in bringing IMS to China.”
Billboard will be around, joined by other media outlets Mixmag and Pulse, to talk why they've all launched localized Asian-region platforms. Check the flyer and full list of speakers and appearances below.
