Kygo to Perform at Rio Olympics Closing Ceremony
Despite Kygo's Norwegian nationality, he makes some pretty groovy tropical music. If his festival headlining appearances weren't enough of a vote of confidence, the country of Brazil will now open its arms to his coconut-scented sounds when Kygo takes the stage at the Rio Olympic Closing Ceremony.
Catch him Sunday, Aug. 21, performing his latest single “Carry Me” with vocalist Julia Michaels front and center at the Maracana Stadium in Rio de Janeiro. It's all part of a plan to announce the new Olympic Channel, a digital platform dedicated to bringing fans Olympic content year-round as a means to relive moments of old and gear up for Olympic feats to come.
“The opportunity to be a part of the Closing Ceremony of the Olympic Games in Rio is a huge milestone in my career and it will be the biggest performance of my life,” Kygo says in a press release. “I've been a sports fan forever, and to be able to combine this with my music and help launch something like the Olympic Channel is a dream come true.”
“As one of the hottest music acts in the world, Kygo’s music speaks to new generations of Olympic fans,” Mark Parkman, General Manager of the Olympic Channel, continues in the release. “His Closing Ceremony performance is sure to electrify viewers around the world on Sunday night as we prepare to launch the Olympic Channel. Kygo and his music will be an important element of the Olympic Channel where fans will be able to continue their excitement of Rio and the Olympic Games all year long.”
