“I am so honored to team up with YouTube and play a part in celebrating the future of the video game industry at E3,” Garrix said in a press release.

“Video games definitely inspired some of my music,” he added in a video that accompanied the song's release. “I love playing Mario Kart. It’s one of my favorite games -- a very simple but very fun game. I would love to team up with a video game one day to do a soundtrack.”

In the same clip, the producer also described the process that led to “Oops.” “I went into the studio and had fun with chords and weird sounds,” he remembers. “I came up with a chord progression, chopped the vocal up, [and] put a catchy melody on top.”
