Exclusive: Lane 8 Premieres Audion's Remix of 'Ghost' ft. Patrick Baker

With the first single off his forthcoming full-length debut in need of a remix, Lane 8 knew exactly who to turn to.

The German artist first met Audion -- an alias of electronic visionary Matthew Dear -- when they recorded a song together for his album at the end of 2014. A fateful reconnection in London eventually led to the haunting remix at hand.

CODE First Play: Audion, 'Sky'

"We were both gigging in London and met up to do some writing, and I played him some of the album demos, including 'Ghost,'" says Lane 8. "He really liked it, and I naturally thought it'd be great to get an Audion remix of the tune, so when the time came to choose remixers, he was at the top of the list."

Dear's reinterpretation trades the original's beatless melodies and lonely lead synth line for a tribal groove that provides an edgy backdrop to Patrick Baker's longing lyrics.

"I crafted this remix around the vocal, allowing me to take the music in a completely different direction aimed at late night revelry on the dance-floor," says Dear.

Lane 8 agrees with his assessment, praising the Michigan native's ear for unique production elements.

"I love the sound design in particular on this remix, the way he uses unconventional synths and samples to create the percussive foundation of the track," says Lane 8. "I've really enjoyed playing it out in my DJ sets as a change-up in texture from the normal styles I play."

Lane 8's Rise LP will be available from July 17 through Anjunadeep.
