When Twitter announced today (Dec. 9) that its most retweeted tweet of 2019 came from the World Record Egg, shared initially on Jan. 14, it only held the title for a matter of minutes. An hour later, a tweet from BTS’ official account had gone on to surpass it.
Originally the second-most retweeted tweet of 2019, a video for Jungkook dancing to Billie Eilish’s “Bad Guy” rapidly surpassed the egg tweet by over 6,000 retweets as fans of the group, known as ARMY, shared the then-No. 2 to make it the No. 1 tweet of 2019. The clip, originally posted on June 9, has been shared over 972,500 times, and its video has been viewed nearly 26 million times, at time of publication.
“ALERT!” Twitter sent out through a statement later in the day. “BTS now has the most Retweeted Tweet of 2019, globally. In under an hour after we announced the list of most RTed Tweets globally, the fans saw that BTS was in second place, and came together to make it number one. The BTS Tweet has now surpassed the #1 Tweet by 6K Retweets!”
