BTS First Asian Act to Surpass 5 Billion Streams on Spotify

Digital music platform Spotify announced Friday (April 12) that BTS is the first K-pop group, and Asian artist overall, to surpass 5 billion streams on the platform.

The news coincided with the group’s release of Map of the Soul: Persona. The seven-track EP, fronted by the single “Boy With Luv” featuring Halsey, arrives after last year’s Billboard 200 chart-topping duo Love Yourself: Tear and Love Yourself: Answer. “Fake Love,” originally released as a single on the former but also included on the latter, was Spotify’s most-streamed K-pop track of 2018, and has been responsible for more than 219 million of BTS’ 5 billion streams.

To commemorate the album release and the news, BTS will take over Spotify’s Teen Party playlist for the next seven days. Along with BTS and Halsey, the playlist also features songs from Post Malone, Billie Eilish, Cardi B, Bruno Mars, Jonas Brothers, Ariana Grande and many more. Take a listen to the band’s song choices here:
