Steve Aoki & BTS' 'Waste It On Me' Has Arrived: Listen
It's BTS' first English track.
Third time’s a charm, and that's definitely held true for the ongoing relationship between Korean septet BTS and Steve Aoki. Today (Oct. 25), the Grammy-nominated producer and DJ debuted the new song “Waste It On Me,” which features the boy band’s members. It is the BTS' first song that is entirely in English.
A vibrantly smooth EDM track, “Waste It On Me” relays the dramatic feelings of passion one feels when they want to spend all their time with a person they love. With a rollicking beat, sweeping synths, and bright, horn-like effects arriving with the choral build guiding the track, BTS expressively reflects the desire to invest time in one another regardless of any reluctance. “So if love is nothing more than just a waste of your time/Waste it on me," the Billboard 200 chart-topping boy band sings.
“Waste It On Me” was released alongside a colorful lyric music video, which features the imagery initially teased in a mysterious billboard in Los Angeles that excited BTS’ fandom ARMY and prompted “The Great BTS Billboard Hunt” hashtag as fans tried to figure out what the signage was hinting.
“I’m so psyched to share this collaboration with one of the most exciting and inspiring group of guys I’ve met in the past few years,” said Aoki in a statement. “It’s an absolute honor to work with them once again on ‘Waste It On Me.’ I can’t wait for my fans to hear what’s in store for them next on this third installment of Neon Future.” The song will be released on Aoki’s upcoming Neon Future III album, set to drop on Nov. 9.
“We're happy for this meaningful and heart-felt collaboration,” said BTS. “The song is just so amazing, we really enjoyed working on it. It's our first song that is entirely in English. It was refreshing and fun to record the song. We hope this would be a good present for our fans.”
BTS and Aoki previously collaborated on the RIAA certified gold single “Mic Drop (Remix)” with Desiigner, a remake of their Love Yourself: Her track, and their evocative B-side “The Truth Untold” from their No. 1 album Love Yourself: Tear.
This latest collaboration between the pair comes at a time amid big weeks for Aoki and BTS; the septet was recently awarded orders of merit from the South Korean government for their spreading of South Korean culture and language throughout the world, while Aoki recently became canonized as a part of American history with a donation of his gear to the Smithsonian’s National Museum of American History in Washington, D.C.
