Nick Cordero, the 41-year-old former star of Broadway's Waitress musical, is fighting for his life in the intensive care unit.

His wife, Amanda Kloots, wrote on Tuesday that her husband has been "sick for awhile" with what they were informed last week is pneumonia.

"Unfortunately we think he was misdiagnosed and we are waiting to hear if this is in fact COVID. He is scared, in the ICU and now unconscious so his body can get enough oxygen," she said, noting that it's unclear if he is suffering form the effects of the novel coronavirus. "We are all trying to stay positive and strong knowing that he is in the best care. I miss him terribly. I’m not allowed there to visit of course and can do nothing to help him."

A spokesperson for Cordero had not returned requests for comment at press time.

The post includes a picture of Cordero holding the couple's nine-month-old son, Elvis Eduardo. Kloot noted that she has not been allowed to visit Cordero in the hospital -- due to fears of further coronavirus spread, health care institutions have instituted strict new rules about visitation -- and that her husband is "scared too, this has gone from bad to worse. He isn't allowed to eat or drink, he is very weak and having a hard time breathing."

Tony-nominated Cordero has appeared in a number of popular Broadway shows (Rock of Ages, A Bronx Tale, Bullets Over Broadway) in addition to playing the role of Earl Hunterson in Waitress.
