Dear Evan Hansen will have an official new lead, as of mid-January: Taylor Trensch, who's currently Barnaby Tucker in Hello, Dolly! on Broadway.

Before Trensch takes over the role of Evan Hansen in the Tony Award-winning hit, Noah Galvin (ABC's The Real O'Neals) will temporarily play the part from Nov. 21 through January.

Ben Platt, currently starring as Hansen, will depart from the show in November.

Cast members Laura Dreyfuss, Rachel Bay Jones, Jennifer Laura Thompson, Mike Faist, Michael Park and Will Roland have extended their contracts through May, and Kristolyn Lloyd will stay through February.

“We’re excited to welcome Noah and Taylor to our Dear Evan Hansen Family and I’m deeply joyful that our other original company members will remain in our show,” producer Stacey Mindich says in a statement released Tuesday (Aug. 22). “As we embark on casting for the national tour and future productions of the show, it’s thrilling to begin discovering new, exciting talent for this unique role.”

“Evan is such a complex and rewarding role, and I can’t wait to see Noah and Taylor make it their own,” director Michael Greif adds. “Nothing excites me more than working with young talent, and both young men are incredibly skilled and surprising performers.”

The Dear Evan Hansen soundtrack debuted at No. 8 on the Billboard 200 albums chart upon its release in February.
