'Beautiful: The Carole King Musical' Visits Billboard on Broadway Video Series

For the inaugural installment of the “Billboard on Broadway” pre-Tony Awards video series, the stars of Beautiful: The Carole King Musical stopped by the Billboard office to perform three songs from the show, which won two Tony awards, along with a 2015 Grammy for best musical theater album.

In the video above, Chilina Kennedy, who plays King, sings “Will You Love Me Tomorrow” and “Natural Woman,” while Jake Epstein, who plays King's former husband and collaborator Gerry Goffin, sings “Take Good Care of My Baby.”

“A lot of people know Carole King,” Kennedy says, “but a lot of people don’t know that before she became a solo artist she wrote songs for famous acts of the time – the Shirelles, the Drifters. And Gerry Goffin was her first husband and lyricist. The bulk of [the show’s] story is about their troubling, difficult and wonderful collaboration and relationship.” Thursday (Feb. 9) marks King’s 75th birthday.

Beautiful: The Carole King Musical is currently running on Broadway at the Stephen Sondheim Theatre and is on national tour as well.
