Disney’s musical adaptation of Freaky Friday — based on both the studio’s two hit films and the original book by Mary Rodgers — is currently playing at California’s La Jolla Playhouse (a popular off-Broadway venue), but it has major Broadway cred. The music is by the Tony and Pulitzer-winning team of Tom Kitt and Brian Yorkey, known for their pop-rock-influenced scores for Next to Normal and the Idina Menzel vehicle If/Then. If you can’t make it to California (or one of the many cities where Freaky Friday will stop next), the cast album will be released tomorrow on Walt Disney Records.

In this exclusive music video debuting on Billboard, Heidi Blickenstaff (recently of the Tony-nominated musical Something Rotten) — starring as Freaky Friday mom Katherine, who magically swaps bodies with her daughter, Ellie — sings one of the show’s major numbers, “After All of This and Everything.”

“The interesting challenge of the show was that we had two main characters who both needed an 11 o'clock moment,” says Kitt of the number. “So we had to write two songs for that penultimate moment in the musical. The challenge was just nailing that moment.”

In this reflective moment, Yorkey says, Katherine-as-Ellie “looks around and sort of realize[s] that home is home, no matter what.”

Freaky Friday runs at the La Jolla Playhouse through March 12 before heading to the Cleveland Playhouse (April 15-May 14) and Houston’s Alley Theatre (June 2-July 2), with further productions around the U.S. and Canada planned for 2017-2018.
