Taylor Swift Champions Female Artists After 2018 Billboard Music Awards Win: 'We're So Inspired By You'
Taylor Swift made her awards show return at the Billboard Music Awards Sunday night (May 20), a surprise appearance that was hailed by fans around the world. But when the singer was awarded the top female artist honor, she wanted to hail her fellow females.
First shouting out her female Reputation Tour mates, Charli XCX and Camila Cabello — who had a hilarious “hey girl” reaction to the call-out — Swift went on to champion all of the girls who run the music world.
“I want to thank all the female artists who paved the way for us to get to do what we do the way we get to do it,” Swift said. “All the new female artists who are killing it out there right now, we’re so inspired by you. And I don’t know, shout-out to the future female artists who just picked up a guitar or learned how to play the piano. And to the fans who care about the music that we make, thank you so much.”
Swift’s Billboard Music Awards appearance follows two sold-out nights at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, where she had Shawn Mendes, Selena Gomez and Troye Sivan join her on stage for surprise performances. Her Reputation Tour just kicked off on May 8 and will continue through November.
